A PITCH TO KEEP THE SANDS OPEN...

First, I fully understand Pinnacle’s desire to start fresh and build the type of property they think will be most successful, and I have no doubt they will be successful whether they take my advice or not.

That being said, I would suggest they keep the Sands open while they build their dream casino. It is doable, and, most important, it allows Pinnacle to build upon a base of current customers who will go elsewhere if they close.

No doubt Pinnacle believes what they will build will do what Borgata did in July of 2003 when it opened and quickly went to the top of Atlantic City’s. That is, cause the masses to want to be there simply because it’s better, newer, flashier.

To be fair, if Pinnacle is willing to close their casino and build anew, they must have something spectacular in mind. And they are probably thinking that the construction will be so disruptive folks may not want to gamble there anyway. As to that, they are probably right. But others will want to be a part of the process and watch the glory unfold.

There are ways to address every issue relating to closing the Sands during construction...it’s just to me, none of them make any cents.

Former Brighton casino to close...

It opened as The Brighton casino, it will close as the Sands. Sands management recently announced that it has been bought by gaming giant Pinnacle Entertainment. The new company plans to build an ultra-mega resort and has stated it wil close, then demolish The Sands to make way for the new project.

Over 2000 employees will lose their jobs while the new casino is under construction. Many employees at The Sands have been there since the casino was called The Brighton. It was always Atlantic City’s smallest casino, but at one time hosted some of the city’s highest of high rollers.
