Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine cover - December 2007/January 2008
Many free publications claim they do a lot of things. Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine is the only one that delivers Print run verification... Click here
The next time a "Free Publication" representative tells you about the number of printed copies, distribution, etc.
Tell 'em to prove it!
As an advertiser you're paying for the number of printed copies. That's what advertising rates are based on. Many free publications inflate, or downright lie, about their actual printed copy number in order to justify their rates to advertisers, and make their publications seem bigger than they are. At the South Jersey Insider, we can't let that go unchallenged. So, as I stated above, the next time a rep tells you the number of copies they print, tell 'em to prove it! If it is what they say, they should be happy to comply, if not, I recommend you tell them good-bye.

What’s on the plate in 2008...
Well, if it’s the plate of Atlantic City development we’re talking about, you couldn’t get anymore on it if you tried. “Piled high” is a term we would use to describe the state of developmental affairs in Atlantic City for 2008. Very high. Of course, there’s a lot of other stuff that goes on in Atlantic City that could be piled into mountains, but that's a story for another day. This issue is all about what’s ahead developmentally in the city that’s always turned on, and Publisher Dan Klein, kicks it off as usual on page 6. Jack Diamond, our lovable CasinoInsider, tackles casino development for 2008 beginning on page 34. Included in his list of openings in 2008 is, of course, the much anticipated Water Club Hotel & Spa at Borgata. Notice we didn’t include the term casino in the title. That’s because there isn’t one as the newest, most luxurious addition to the Borgata “bang” will operate as an entirely separate entity, but with all of Borgata’s amenities, including, of course, its casino. The “piece de resistance” for the project is the indoor pool on the 28th floor that goes right to the outside glass wall. Talk about your proverbial “view To Die For.” Over at Boardwalk Hall it’s one big show after another starting with Hannah Montana and Milley Cyrus on January 5th, to Celine Dion on September 20th. Mixed in between are R. Kelly, Van Halen, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, Dancing With the Stars, and The Mummer's “Show of Shows”... Of course, this entire issue is devoted to everything that is worth doing today, tomorrow, next week, next month as well as months down the road.

On the Cover: It’s a veritable “Plateful” of stuff going on in 2008 here in Southern New Jersey, and it’s our job to bring it to you. As Usual, we gladly comply. The cover of this issue of Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine, SJI for short, features a collage of people, places and things which will impact 2008.

AC’S CASINOS READY FOR AN EXCITING 2007...

AS ATLANTIC CITY’S CASINOS FACE NEW COMPETITION IN SURROUNDING STATES, AND NOW, PERHAPS IN THEIR OWN BACK YARD, YOU MIGHT THINK 2007 WOULD BE A YEAR APPROACHED WITH CAUTION...THE KEYWORD THERE IS “MIGHT”...

Yes, we’ve heard it all before. With each new opening of another casino in another state, the death knell is sounded by so-called experts for Atlantic City. Yet, each month and year, Atlantic City’s casinos continue to grow their revenue streams by leaps and bounds, meaning, regardless of what goes on around it, Atlantic City is still the engine that drives the gaming market on the East Coast. And, don’t expect that to change in 2007 and beyond. Of course, it is natural to expect that at some point the opening of new gaming outlets will begin to eat at Atlantic City’s bottom line. But so far, that hasn’t occurred, and this writer doesn’t believe it ever will. Not if Atlantic City keeps on doing what it has been doing. Which is continue to create an environment that is a total entertainment experience. Gaming, dining, shows, shopping, and top name entertainment covering all music genre’s. Toss in the Boardwalk and mighty Atlantic Ocean and you’ve got a destination resort that is going to be tough to beat. Add to that, the city is currently in a developmental wave reminiscent of the early days of casino development that should secure its future for a long time to come.

Some of the exciting, new things you can expect to see in 2007 in Atlantic City are the opening of the second phase of Atlantic City Outlets at The Walk, The Water Club at Borgata, Groundbreaking on Pinnacle Entertainment’s Mega Resort project at the site of the former Sands casino, and the Boardwalk Facade program sponsored by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and will result in the upgrading of Boardwalk store facades. Of course, we will also find out about the proposed Donald Trump, Steve Wynn joint venture at the site of the current Boardwalk Hall, as well as what might happen with Bader field, one of the few remaining, undeveloped, waterfront properties in the South Jersey area, and rated as one of the prime real estate locations on the East Coast. The bottom line here is that 2007 is going to be one heck of a landmark year for the “City That’s Always Turned On!”

AC HILTON
HILTON OPENS POSH CHAIRMAN’S CLUB...

The Atlantic City Hilton has replaced its very popular gourmet Chinese restaurant with one of the hottest spots for a player’s club we’ve ever seen. The room is beautifully appointed with a luxurious bar, HD TV’s, complete buffet, big comfortable lounge chairs and sofas, and a sweeping view of the breathtaking Atlantic Ocean. Once a member, you may not want to go home. As for fans of the Gourmet Chinese restaurant, one of which this writer can be called, the outstanding eatery is temporarily located inside the Horizon’s Coffee Shop. Needless to say, the decor and atmosphere are just a tad different than their old location, but the food is every bit as delicious. Hands down, one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city. A permanent, new home is currently being developed for the restaurant. Check back here each month for updates.

All of the Harrah’s properties (Harrah’s, Showboat, Caesars & Bally’s) are participating in this big, big, deal. And why not? It’s the kind of promotion that will do what casino promotions are supposed to. Bring people to the property. Here’s how it works: Each day $1 Million dollars will be secretly hidden in someone’s “Total Rewards” customer account. Patrons simply swipe their “Total Rewards” card to see if they are the lucky winner that day. There’s also other smaller cash prizes available too. Diamond View: Resorts creating their own shopping mall filled with quality, name brand, merchandise for its cus - tomers is nothing less than brilliant. A real winner, all the way around.

SHOWBOAT SEE HARRAH’S, CAESARS OR BALLY’S...

One of the obvious benefits to owning four casinos (five, if you include House Of Blues) in a twelve casino town is that you can incorporate all of the locations in one promotion and thus generate a higher response from the public. Although, I’ll bet that if you averaged it out per casino it would come out to the same ballpark response than any other similar promotion. Needless to say, the key to a big response from the public doesn’t lie in how many different locations one can participate, but rather the individual promotion itself. The bigger the bucks...the bigger the bang. Badbing, Bad-boom!
