Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine cover - December 2007/January 2008
Many free publications claim they do a lot of things. Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine is the only one that delivers Print run verification... Click here
The next time a "Free Publication" representative tells you about the number of printed copies, distribution, etc.
Tell 'em to prove it!
As an advertiser you're paying for the number of printed copies. That's what advertising rates are based on. Many free publications inflate, or downright lie, about their actual printed copy number in order to justify their rates to advertisers, and make their publications seem bigger than they are. At the South Jersey Insider, we can't let that go unchallenged. So, as I stated above, the next time a rep tells you the number of copies they print, tell 'em to prove it! If it is what they say, they should be happy to comply, if not, I recommend you tell them good-bye.

cover: Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine - December 2007/January 2008
What’s on the plate in 2008...
Well, if it’s the plate of Atlantic City development we’re talking about, you couldn’t get anymore on it if you tried. “Piled high” is a term we would use to describe the state of developmental affairs in Atlantic City for 2008. Very high. Of course, there’s a lot of other stuff that goes on in Atlantic City that could be piled into mountains, but that's a story for another day. This issue is all about what’s ahead developmentally in the city that’s always turned on, and Publisher Dan Klein, kicks it off as usual on page 6. Jack Diamond, our lovable CasinoInsider, tackles casino development for 2008 beginning on page 34. Included in his list of openings in 2008 is, of course, the much anticipated Water Club Hotel & Spa at Borgata. Notice we didn’t include the term casino in the title. That’s because there isn’t one as the newest, most luxurious addition to the Borgata “bang” will operate as an entirely separate entity, but with all of Borgata’s amenities, including, of course, its casino. The “piece de resistance” for the project is the indoor pool on the 28th floor that goes right to the outside glass wall. Talk about your proverbial “view To Die For.” Over at Boardwalk Hall it’s one big show after another starting with Hannah Montana and Milley Cyrus on January 5th, to Celine Dion on September 20th. Mixed in between are R. Kelly, Van Halen, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, Dancing With the Stars, and The Mummer's “Show of Shows”... Of course, this entire issue is devoted to everything that is worth doing today, tomorrow, next week, next month as well as months down the road.

On the Cover: It’s a veritable “Plateful” of stuff going on in 2008 here in Southern New Jersey, and it’s our job to bring it to you. As Usual, we gladly comply. The cover of this issue of Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine, SJI for short, features a collage of people, places and things which will impact 2008.

Summer's last stand...

Atlantic County Events header

August brings with it both sadness and anticipation. Sadness upon the reality another summer at the shore is flying by. And, anticipation at what this last few weeks has in store...Everything happening in Southern New Jersey this August is in this magazine, that's for sure.

SOUTH JERSEY, N.J. – It's that time of year where we know that summer's end is drawing near but there is still plenty of time to really put an exclamation point on the season. For all of the action associated with Atlantic City's casinos check out pages 40-47. There you will find the most comprehensive casino entertainment calendar published anywhere, and you'll also find all of the sweepstakes, giveaways and promotions being offered this month at each casino too.

Make it to Formica's Cafe Jazz night...

Everyone in South jersey knows about Formica brothers Bakery, located in the heart of Atlantic City's famed "Ducktown." The Formica's having been baking the best bread in the world since 1919. in addition to the original Atlantic City Italian Sub bread they also prepare delicious gourmet breads and pastries. In fact, their dinner breads are so delicious they provide most of the fresh product you see at your favorite casino or local restaurant. Frank Formica opened the Cafe a couple of years ago and has turned it into one of the most happening spots in Atlantic City. Formica's Cafe, located at 2310 Arctic Avenue (right across the street from the "World Famous" White House Sub Shop) serves Seattle's Best coffee and all of Formica's fresh baked goods are available for eat in.

Don't miss the authentic Italian tomato pie. Now, on Saturday nights, Frank presents sensational guitarist and musician, Bob Mower, who, along with musician friends who show up to jam for the audience, the evening has become an overwhelming success. Bob Sterling of the Bob Sterling Band likes to show up on Saturday nights as well. And, the combination of Mower and Sterling is just terrific.

If you can hum the tune Bob Mower can play it, and if you like your music played with intelligence and substance than Sterling's your man. Meanwhile, the audience has grown tremendously week after week. It's definitely Atlantic City's hottest spot right now. The music coming out of that joint is some of the best anywhere and that includes the casino stages of Atlantic City. I would definitely put this one on the "to do' list.

Don't miss "Thunder Over The Boardwalk"...

It's baaaack! On Wednesday, August 15th. the Atlantic City's annual Air Show, " Thunder Over The Boardwalk" takes place featuring a complete line-up of military and civilian aircraft, fully engaged in acrobatic maneuvering and spine-tingling stunts.

Show starts at11am so be sure to plan for traffic accordingly. You'll also be able to view much of the show two days prior to the actual event as participants practice their parts... as a side note, and in honor of the air show, on Tuesday, August 14th and Wednesday, August 15th, there will be a showing of the hit movie "Top Gun" with Tom Cruise on the beach between Bally's and Caesars.

Movie starts when it gets dark at approximately 8:30pm... Elsewhere around South Jersey, Rascal Flatts will be at Boardwalk Hall on Thursday, August 23rd. This country and western sensation has taken the country by storm with their uplifting, footstompin' brand of music and entertainment... And beginning on August 10th and running through the 12th, Atlantic City presents its annual Arts Alive weekend. A juried festival of fine arts, crafts and music..On Sunday, August 12th, it's the Annual Puerto Rican Parade and Festival. Parade starts at Albany Avenue and the Boardwalk at noon, and proceeds to New Jersey Avenue for the all day festival...

ATLANTIC CITY

BAYSIDE ANTIQUES

Open All Year • We met Gerald Stevenson back in 1996 when we first started this magazine. He was one of the few businesses located in the now bustling Gardner’s Basin. Back then it was just Gerald, Jeff George of Atlantic City Cruises, Maryanne and Ross Constantino of the Flying Cloud Restaurant, and the then, Ocean Life Center, now the Atlantic City Aquarium. Gerald, like the other four business people mentioned, believed in the future of the Basin as a viable and exciting Atlantic City attraction, and it’s there where he chose to operate his very successful Antique Shop. Gerald specializes in buying entire estates, and has recently taken an interest in buying older art pieces. Whether buying or selling, Gerald is a pleasure to deal with, and is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to antiques. For more information call 347-7143.
