Tell 'em to prove it!
As an advertiser you're paying for the number of printed copies. That's what advertising rates are based on. Many free publications inflate, or downright lie, about their actual printed copy number in order to justify their rates to advertisers, and make their publications seem bigger than they are. At the South Jersey Insider, we can't let that go unchallenged. So, as I stated above, the next time a rep tells you the number of copies they print, tell 'em to prove it!
If it is what they say, they should be happy to comply, if not, I recommend you tell them
good-bye.

What’s on the plate in 2008...
Well, if it’s the plate of Atlantic City development we’re talking about, you couldn’t get
anymore on it if you tried. “Piled high” is a term we would use to describe the state of
developmental affairs in Atlantic City for 2008. Very high. Of course, there’s a lot of other
stuff that goes on in Atlantic City that could be piled into mountains, but that's a story for
another day. This issue is all about what’s ahead developmentally in the city that’s
always turned on, and Publisher Dan Klein, kicks it off as usual on page 6. Jack
Diamond, our lovable CasinoInsider, tackles casino development for 2008 beginning
on page 34. Included in his list of openings in 2008 is, of course, the much anticipated
Water Club Hotel & Spa at Borgata. Notice we didn’t include the term casino in the
title. That’s because there isn’t one as the newest, most luxurious addition to the
Borgata “bang” will operate as an entirely separate entity, but with all of Borgata’s
amenities, including, of course, its casino. The “piece de resistance” for the project is
the indoor pool on the 28th floor that goes right to the outside glass wall. Talk about your
proverbial “view To Die For.” Over at Boardwalk Hall it’s one big show after another
starting with Hannah Montana and Milley Cyrus on January 5th, to Celine Dion on
September 20th. Mixed in between are R. Kelly, Van Halen, Keith Urban and Carrie
Underwood, Dancing With the Stars, and The Mummer's “Show of Shows”... Of
course, this entire issue is devoted to everything that is worth doing today, tomorrow,
next week, next month as well as months down the road.

- Through Fall 2002 - Atlantic City Historic Museum Tribute to Legendary Jazz Drummer Chris Columbo - An exhibit of legendary jazz drummer Chris Columbo memorabilia is on display at the Atlantic City Historic Museum, located on Atlantic City's Boardwalk Garden Pier. The collection features various items on loan from his family, and the show's curator, Atlantic City Historian & Museum board member, Sid Trusty. Columbo, who passed away on July 5th at the age of 100, first appeared at the "Torch Club" in Atlantic City. He recorded with such music greats as Duke Ellington, Count Basie & Louis Jordan among others. Atlantic Historical Museum is located at Garden Pier, Boardwalk and New Jersey Avenues. - Open Year Round - Atlantic City Historic Museum at the The Al Gold Photography Gallery - "Starshine: There's No Business Like Show Business in Atlantic City" - A spectacular ride through the pages of Atlantic City's famed past through the camera lens of Atlantic City's most famous photographer and archivist, Al Gold. The Atlantic City Historical Museum is open 10 AM to 4 PM seven days a week. Admission and parking are free. Located on Garden Pier, New Jersey Avenue and the Boardwalk. - Open Year Round - Ocean Life Center - Open 7 days - year round - This maritime museum and exhibit has thrilled locals and visitors since it opened in May of 1999. Part of the revival at Historic Gardner's Basin, the Ocean Life Center celebrates and features ocean life found in the local waters of South Jersey. - Through September - The World Famous Steel Pier - The famous pier has been transformed into a top family ride, attraction and entertainment center reminiscent of its glory days, by the Catanoso Family. Brothers Anthony and Bill feature some of the hottest rides at the Jersey Shore. They know which rides to present because they test them all themselves. If it doesn't thrill them, it doesn't make the Pier.

- New Flights From AC International Airport --The "Queen City" is about to connect with the "Queen of Resorts". Beginning October 1st, 2002, Delta airlines will launch new air service between their hub in Cincinnati, OH and Atlantic City, NJ. Comair, a "Delta Connection" carrier, will operate three round trip flights daily between the two cities. "This link will bring the non-stop action of America's Favorite Playground closer than ever to people of the Cincinnati area. It also will provide residents of the Southern New Jersey region the convenience of a wide selection of flights from Cincinnati to many other cities including Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth and Salt Lake City," according to Jim Crawford, Executive Director, South Jersey Transportation Authority. Special fares apply for travel from October 1, 2002 through January 31, 2003, with certain holiday restrictions. Tickets must be purchased by September 20, 2002. - Las Vegas PURE Oxygen is making its Atlantic City debut at Resorts!…The trendiest West Coast venues tout its "innovative" benefits while metropolitan niches on the East Coast hail its "pure" success. Move over cappuccino…Oxygen is breathing life into a new trend of establishments. Las Vegas Pure Oxygen has opened in the Boardwalk Lobby of Resorts Atlantic City, marking the first "oxygen bar" in Atlantic City. Las Vegas PURE Oxygen currently operates at two locations in Las Vegas and will soon be opening a third.
The Oxygen Bar delivers 90 percent pure oxygen in a variety of aromas to its customers. Customers sit at a counter and inhale the oxygen as it is transmitted through a water unit.
Each session lasts from 7 to 10 minutes. After the session is completed, many patrons leave feeling refreshed. "The Oxygen bar experience combines pure oxygen with aromatherapy," says owner and entrepreneur Anthony Capetola. "After a session at the Oxygen Bar, people have reported feeling like they have more energy and are mentally refreshed." The Las Vegas PURE Oxygen Bar at Resorts will be open daily from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. with facilities to accommodate up to eight people, simultaneously.

Estell Manor
- Atlantic County Park at Estell Manor is an undisclosed gem (at least until now) right in the heart of South Jersey. Visitors to the Estell Manor Park may borrow bikes and helmets, volleyballs, softball equipment, soccer balls, horseshoes, jump ropes, frisbees, and tetherballs at the W.E. Fox Nature Center. An adult must be with any children borrowing equipment, and must present a valid driver's license. Children under 14 must wear helmets while riding bicycles as per New Jersey State law. The Atlantic County Division of Parks and Recreation also hosts nature walks, tours, and classes, and can coordinate group outings for groups of 10 to 60. Oceanville
- Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge - This tract of federal land is over 20,000 acres of wetlands and forest. It is located in the area of Oceanville, and partly in the Barnegat area. There is an eight-mile driving loop for nature observation, which can be walked or biked. There are also two short hiking trails, and a Visitor's Center. There is an entrance fee; please call 652-1665 for details. This is a good area to look for bald eagles, waterfowl, snow geese, and owls.
