Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine cover - December 2007/January 2008
Many free publications claim they do a lot of things. Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine is the only one that delivers Print run verification... Click here
The next time a "Free Publication" representative tells you about the number of printed copies, distribution, etc.
Tell 'em to prove it!
As an advertiser you're paying for the number of printed copies. That's what advertising rates are based on. Many free publications inflate, or downright lie, about their actual printed copy number in order to justify their rates to advertisers, and make their publications seem bigger than they are. At the South Jersey Insider, we can't let that go unchallenged. So, as I stated above, the next time a rep tells you the number of copies they print, tell 'em to prove it! If it is what they say, they should be happy to comply, if not, I recommend you tell them good-bye.

What’s on the plate in 2008...
Well, if it’s the plate of Atlantic City development we’re talking about, you couldn’t get anymore on it if you tried. “Piled high” is a term we would use to describe the state of developmental affairs in Atlantic City for 2008. Very high. Of course, there’s a lot of other stuff that goes on in Atlantic City that could be piled into mountains, but that's a story for another day. This issue is all about what’s ahead developmentally in the city that’s always turned on, and Publisher Dan Klein, kicks it off as usual on page 6. Jack Diamond, our lovable CasinoInsider, tackles casino development for 2008 beginning on page 34. Included in his list of openings in 2008 is, of course, the much anticipated Water Club Hotel & Spa at Borgata. Notice we didn’t include the term casino in the title. That’s because there isn’t one as the newest, most luxurious addition to the Borgata “bang” will operate as an entirely separate entity, but with all of Borgata’s amenities, including, of course, its casino. The “piece de resistance” for the project is the indoor pool on the 28th floor that goes right to the outside glass wall. Talk about your proverbial “view To Die For.” Over at Boardwalk Hall it’s one big show after another starting with Hannah Montana and Milley Cyrus on January 5th, to Celine Dion on September 20th. Mixed in between are R. Kelly, Van Halen, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, Dancing With the Stars, and The Mummer's “Show of Shows”... Of course, this entire issue is devoted to everything that is worth doing today, tomorrow, next week, next month as well as months down the road.

On the Cover: It’s a veritable “Plateful” of stuff going on in 2008 here in Southern New Jersey, and it’s our job to bring it to you. As Usual, we gladly comply. The cover of this issue of Dan Klein's South Jersey Insider Magazine, SJI for short, features a collage of people, places and things which will impact 2008.

Insider's Guide To Parking

Parking in Atlantic City these days is easy and abundant, if you know what you're doing. The first thing to keep in mind is that Atlantic City as a whole is not that big. Less than five miles from the Northern most part of the boardwalk to Jackson Avenue it's southern Border counterpart.

Atlantic City is part of an Island called Absecon Island which also includes the wonderful community's of Ventnor, Margate & Longport. You'll will find many an outstanding dining establishment in these beautiful seaside communities. Absecon Island with all four communities is only 12 miles from tip to toe. It can be a wonderful afternoon diversion to or from your show.

Speaking of diversions, let's get back to the issue at hand of parking and Transportation. From the boardwalk to the new Convention Center is only four blocks and you can grab a Jitney (look for the color coded orange sign in the window traffic lane between the Convention Center and the Sheraton.

There are 11 hotel casinos along the Boardwalk.

The Atlantic City Hilton is the first property at the western end; the newest is Trump’s World’s Fair in the middle near our historic Convention Hall. Also, in the middle of the Boardwalk is the Western themed Wild Wild West Casino adjacent to Bally’s Park Place. This new casino features 17 state of the art animatronics, created by the same "folks" who brought us the Jurassic Park exhibit at Universal Studios. At the eastern end of the Boardwalk lies the Showboat. Just a bit past the Showboat is the Atlantic City Historical Museum and the Art Museum on Garden Pier - a must stop for every visitor.

As you walk the “Boards,” you’ll have plenty of company, especially if the weather is good. And there are several good restaurants on the Boardwalk, including Cafe 21, Duke Mack’s, Scannicchio’s and the fine restaurants on the 3rd Deck in the Shops at Ocean One.

If you want to visit one of the Marina District casinos, and there are two - Trump’s Marina and Harrah’s, catch a No. 2 or No. 3 Jitney on Pacific Ave. Of course, a taxi is always an option. While you’re in the east end of Atlantic City, check out Gardner’s Basin. Great sunsets, great views of the marina casinos.

Insider's Guide To Transportation

Jitneys

jitney The Jitneys are the basic means of transportation in Atlantic City. For 75 years, the Jitney has provided transportation for visitors and "locals" alike. Each Jitney is independently owned, and you never seem to have to wait for more than a few minutes for one to come along. New Jitneys will be coming on-line over the coming years, and several are currently in operation. Look for a few new Jitneys to join the fleet every month.

Boardwalk Rolling Chairs

Now, let’s get back to the Boardwalk for a second. One of the great Atlantic City traditions is the Rolling Chair. Since 1887, the Rolling Chair has been a symbol of luxury along the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Wealthy vacationers hired these wicker vehicles. Now, the nostalgia lives on, but you don’t have to be rich to hire one. They’re about the same cost as taking a taxi - about $5 is all you need for a ride - only a lot more scenic and fun.

For the past few years, Ted Garry has operated the Boardwalk Rolling Chair Corporation - the chairs with the blue canopy. For more information call 344-1702.

Since 1984, Larry Belfer, has operated the Atlantic City Famous Rolling Chair - the chairs with the red canopy. For more information call Larry at 347-7148.

Taxis

You can hail a taxi in Atlantic City, but the easiest way to "grab a cab" is to call one or find one in a taxi queue outside a casino, the convention center, or other popular drop-off point.

Our favorite taxi driver is Bob, of the Irish Pub Express Cab Company (344-2655 or 1-800-895-1733). The only type of music Bob plays is New Age, so if you're a Yanni or Kitaro fan, you’re in for an extra treat. On weekends you'll usually find Bob parked outside the Irish Pub; midweek he's usually outside the Claridge, Resorts or Sands.

You'll pay a $6.00 flat fee just about anywhere in town.

Here’s an idea of what you’ll pay in taxi fares to destinations outside Atlantic City:

		Shore Mall $25.00
		Hamilton Mall $31.00
		AC Intl Airport $28.00

These prices are from Yellow Taxi, the largest dispatcher in the area; prices from some of the independent drivers may vary slightly. Fares to Margate or Ventnor depend on traffic, but can range from $10.00 to $20.00.

Cue Your Attendees In On All The New Additions To The Atlantic City Landscape With The New "COLORMAP" Of Atlantic City

COLORMAP of Atlantic City Sure you've been to Atlantic City before or maybe this is your first time. Either way your gonna need a map just to highlight all the changes that have taken place in Atlantic City over the past year alone. And why not one that's personalized, colorful, up to date and tailored to meet the specific needs of your convention? The new "Colormap" of Atlantic City is an accurate, animated, 4-Color Rendition of "The Queen Of Resorts."

You see, here's the problem. Each year there are maybe 6 or 7 different maps of Atlantic City printed by various companies and Institutions. For the most part They are all good maps at the time of their printing. But Atlantic City's landscape is changing so fast, Almost as soon as they are printed, they're out of date. And you don't want your attendees missing any of these fantastic changes that are taking place. Like the Cruisn 1 Ocean Adventure Sightseeing Boat at Gardners Basin. Cruisn 1 is operated by Jeff George and is available for private soirees, meetings or rewarding the sales team for a great day on the exhibit floor. This outstanding new attraction is presently missing from every current map of the City. Except the new "Colormap." It can be updated & customized with your shows logo & information. Then printed (in four color) on 80 or 100lb. coated text, glossy stock paper. Single, double sided or folded brochure. Available in quantities of 1000 to 25,000 and turnaround time of 10 days It's also a great souvenir for your guests. Info@ACInside.com
